Meet Katy

Hey, I’m Katy!

I tutor English to secondary students and English Languge to A-Level students. I have a lot of experience and great subject knowledge.

I absolutely love my subject and I love teaching students and helping them fall in love with English too. I have a particular passion for reading and creative writing. Books and stories can take you into other worlds, giving you experiences that nothing else can. Creative writing gives you an outlet for expressing emotions, unravelling thoughts and your real-life experiences.

I plan lessons for enjoyment and creativity; I find that exam skills and literacy fall easily into place after that. I strongly believe that lessons must be enjoyed in order for maximum progress to be made. I have numerous tips, tricks, and treats to ensure my students achieve their full potential.

And some other important questions…

  • What’s your background? I have a degree in English Language and Linguistics from York St John University and a Secondary English PGCE from the University of York. I also have 5 years of teaching experience in the classroom.
  • What’s in your fridge?  Fruit and veg, usually. Always eggs – I love them! And chutney, of course.
  • What are your hobbies? Reading and writing are big hobbies of mine. Photography is a newer hobby of mine that I picked up in lockdown – I’ve been really trying to capture the beauty of nature in the UK with my second-hand camera.
  • What is a fun fact about you? I spent 10 minutes on stage at the Leeds Grand Theatre, helping a magician complete a magic trick, whilst an escapologist tried to get out of a locked tank of water!
