Description

TOPICS WE COVER:

ALGEBRA

Wondering what those funny letters mean, or where that x and y come from? We'll cover the vocabulary of algebra and notation; clearly explaining what the different terms mean. We'll then show you how to expand brackets - looking at both single and double brackets before showing you how to do the reverse of expanding - called factorising!

ANGLES

Do you know that the angles in a triangle add up to 180 degrees? Or what a Z angle is? This box will guide you through all the different angle facts you need to know, with diagrams, explanations and examples.

COMPOUND INTEREST

We'll explain what interest is all about, with a fun and engaging game using marshmallows! We then talk about simple interest and compound interest, and the differences between them. Finally, you'll be given the magic formulae for working out any compound interest question!

CORRELATION & SAMPLING

When you see some statistic on the TV, do you wonder where it's come from? In this box, we'll explain what a sample is; why you'd use one (saving time and money is a good start!) and what the results mean.

FRACTIONS

Here we cover the all important terminology - what denominators, numerators and KFC means (and it's not Kentucky Fried Chicken)! We show you how to divide, multiply, add and subtract fractions; before the final step of converting mixed numbers to improper fractions (and back again)!

GRAPHS

Those squiggly lines you're asked to draw (or interpret) in exams are pretty important things. Let us help you master what a straight line graph is, what they mean and how you draw one (pen or pencil required!).

INDICES & STANDARD FORM

Here we go through two different topics; the rules when we have indicied (often called powers) and also how to re-write really big or small numbers in a much quicker way!

PROBABILITY

Interested to know more about chance and the probability of something happening? Whilst we don't work out the chances of winning the lottery (which is roughly 1 in 14 million), we will work through examples that will come up in your exam!

PYTHAGORAS

We'll explain who the old greek guy was who created Pythagoras and what the formulae is that you need to know. You'll be able to visualise what's required, understand how triangle lengths are linked and what that hypotenuse means.

RATIOS

If you're anything like us, we love baking and cooking - but the recipes are never for the right number! If you're struggling to understand how ratios work, or what they mean, this box is for you
