Meet Ceri

Hey, I’m Ceri!

I’m a Maths tutor from Year 3 all the way up to and including Year 11, and specialise in teaching students with neurodiversity and Maths anxiety.

I tutor because of the time I spent as a classroom teacher – I knew that there were students who needed more of my time, different methods and sometimes just an extra ten minutes to do something, but the pressure of the classroom meant I often could not give them that. Now, my students get that extra time, the different methods and more of my attention. Those ‘ahhh’ moments are what makes it all worthwhile.

I believe that everyone has a mathematician hidden inside them somewhere, some are just a bit shy and need a little coaxing! My tutoring style is to strip back to what students know, then build skills upon that knowledge. Small steps see the greatest progress. I love to include games in my sessions where I can, and apply Maths to the interests of my student. The key to Maths success is confidence; if we build that, we can do anything!

And some other important questions…

  • What’s your background? I have over 10 years of teaching experience, from museums to the classroom, and now the digital classroom. I am Primary trained and gained my PGCE from Goldsmiths University. Before classroom teaching, I trained as an archaeologist and worked in museums.
  • What’s in your fridge? There is always cheese in my fridge – it turns anything into a tasty meal!
  • What are your hobbies? I love going to watch the rugby – I have supported my local team my entire life. My family and I also love to take my dog on adventures; he is a big fan of the forest and is keen on the beach too!
  • What is a fun fact about you? My greatest claim to fame happened when I was part of a garden party at Buckingham Palace to commemorate the First World War. We had to set up a display for the event and be in the gardens all day. We were nearly all set up when a group of gorgeous corgis came to visit us…and it turned out that they belonged to Queen Elizabeth herself! They hid in the shade and were happy to have a belly rub!
