Meet Emma L

Hey, I’m Emma!

I am a highly enthusiastic, qualified primary school teacher, tutoring Maths and English from EYFS to Year 6! I am passionate about working with children to develop their confidence and I love building positive relationships.

I believe that every child has the ability to succeed and I am here to help them achieve. I am fantastic at adapting my teaching style depending on the children`s interests and explaining concepts in different ways, to deepen understanding. If there is a particular topic your child is finding difficult, I will look at ways to break it into smaller steps, in order to gain confidence and overcome barriers. I make sure that each child is able to develop at their own pace and in their own style.

Every session is fun, engaging and tailored to your child’s interests! I use lots of games, discussion and questioning to make sure concepts are embedded and that outcomes can be achieved. I also love to sing, so you will often find me using catchy songs in both maths and English to make learning memorable.

And some other important questions…

  • What’s your background? I have a degree in Business and Management, followed by a Masters degree in Management and Marketing from Aberystwyth University. I also have a PGCE in Primary Education from the University of Birmingham. I have over 4 years of experience as a primary school teacher, and I now work for a university, delivering outreach projects to secondary school pupils, to aspire them to go on to higher education. Prior to becoming a teacher, I worked in educational marketing for a software company and admissions and marketing for an independent school.
  • What’s in your fridge? Lots of yummy fruit and the occasional chocolate treat – Cadbury’s dairy milk is my favourite!
  • What are your hobbies? I love being outside, walking my dog Jessie and going for a run. I also enjoy doing amateur dramatics.
  • What is a fun fact about you? I ran the Birmingham Marathon in 2017! It was super tough but an amazing challenge.
